The Paper Dome? Let us tell you about it!
Opened in March 2025, the Paper Dome is a brand-new hotspot in Amsterdam. The idea for the space was sparked about five years ago by Mark Schuurman, one of the founders of 3x3 Unites. Mark saw quite some cultural venues and wondered why there weren’t more sports-focused spaces for young people. That question led to the creation of the Paper Dome – the first public indoor 3x3 basketball venue in the Netherlands.
But the Paper Dome is more than just basketball. It also offers space for other sports like soccer, martial arts and dance. It’s a true community hub – a space designed to welcome everyone and bring people together through sport.
Thanks to this indoor facility, the community can stay active all year round. In collaboration with residents and young people, 3x3 Unites ensures activities at the Paper Dome. It’s a project truly supported by the community of Amsterdam South-East, where everyone is invited to contribute.
Worthy de Jong: Paper Dome's ambassador
Young people don’t just come here to play sports – they also get the chance to develop their talents, organize events and explore what they are passionate about. It’s a powerful way to build connections, make friend and grow personally. And perhaps the best part: all activities at the Paper Dome are free, making them accessible to everyone.
Worthy de Jong, a member of the Dutch 3X3 basketball team that won Olympic gold, is the Paper Dome’s ambassador. And he’s a perfect fit: Worthy grew up in this very neighborhood, spending his youth playing basketball on the courts of the Bijlmer.
The motto of 3x3 Unites “From the streets to the top” couldn’t suit him better. Worthy’s journey shows young people that anything is possible. Through his role, he hopes to inspire the next generation to dream big, work hard and believe in their potential.
